Eating and Drinking In Pleasantly surprised to come across a host of specialty and organic food vendors at a food festival at Worli's Nehru Centre, March 2014
Eating Out
The eating out scene in South Bombay is changing rapidly. In spite of businesses moving out from Nariman Point to BKC, Parel and Andheri the southern tip of Bombay is getting some very good eating places. Each weekend we find ourselves trying one of them for lunch, dinner or coffee. My own bet is that in the coming thirty years the southern tip of Bombay will turn into an open air museum, with few residences, a good selection of museums and restaurants and guided tours for the "out of towners".
Indian
Paratha Mantra
Just a few steps beyond the Kala Ghoda Cafe sits Paratha Mantra. Fast service, good parathas, perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
Street food
Mira took these pictures as part of her art project for school. Great chaat at Fort, just outside the Fab India store. We've become finicky about the quality of our chaat and khaakra, a final sign of 'Mumbaisation'.
Farmer & Sons
Farmer & Sons, walking distance from the Bombay Stock Exchange and across from the old Fort. Excellent lunch and dinner menu, very well oiled machine in the kitchen!
Italian, mediterranean
Pizza Express
The Pantry
The Pantry has been going strong for four years now, goes from strength to strength. Great breakfasts, lunch and yes dinner. Considered the hub of Kala Ghoda now.
Coffee, Café
Kala Ghoda Café
A genuinely charming place, not as in "Chaaaahming, Daaaahling", but charming, hole in the wall, round the corner from the newly renovated Synagogue, just past Rhythm House. Good coffee, nice cookies.
Sundance Café
Closed for good, again! Replaced by some hideous beer café.
Le Pain Quotidien
Le Pain Quotidien has closed down in Colaba, not able to cover the rent? We're not sure what's coming in its place.
Oh yeah, Starbucks, almost forgot
Service has picked up, marginally, at this Starbucks. It's still too big for its boots, literally, but fills up with hordes of people by late evening in search of an alternative to their living room.
